SS 317 / SS 317L Pipe & Tubing

Stainless Steel 317L is a molybdenum having , lower carbon content “L” quality austenitic stainless-steel that gives enhanced rust resistance over 304L and also 316L stainless steel steels . The lower carbon offers protection to sensitization while in welding along with other heat processes. 317L is non-magnetic in the annealed condition however could become slightly magnet due to welding.

317L possesses outstanding corrosion resilience in a wide range of chemical substances, specifically in acidic chloride conditions for example those experienced in pulp and paper mills. Higher levels of chromium, nickel and molybdenum when compared with 316L stainless-steel enhance resistance to chloride pitting and also common corrosion. Resilience increases with molybdenum metal content. 317L is resistant against sulfuric acid concentration approximately 5 % at temperature up to 120°F (49°C). At temperature under 100°F (38°C) this alloy has outstanding resistance to solutions of high concentration. However, services tests are suggested to account for the affects of particular operating situations that could have an effect on corrosion behaviour. In processes in which condensation of sulfur-bearing gas takes place, 317L is a lot more resistant against attack at the point of condensation compared to common alloy 316.
